문득 오래 전부터 기운을 잃을 때면 따라 부르던 'Never give up on a dream'이 듣고 싶어져 인터넷을 뒤지다가

가슴 뭉클한 동영상 한 편과 만났습니다.

로드 스튜어트가 열창한 이 곡은 어떤 상황에서든 꿈을 잃지 않고 살아가는 진정한 휴머니즘을 노래하고 있습니다.

이 노래를 배경으로 한 동영상의 주인공은 테리 폭스라는 캐나다인입니다.

대학시절 농구선수였던 폭스는 꿈을 채 펼쳐보기도 전 오른쪽 다리에 골육종이 생겨 한쪽 다리를 절단하게 됩니다.

그럼에도 그는 자신의 불행에 굴하지 않고, 1980년에 캐나다 전국을 횡단하는 희망의 마라톤을 시작합니다.

폭스가 143일 동안 한쪽 다리로만 움직인 거리가 자그마치 5천375km나 된다고 합니다.

그러나 암이 폐까지 전이되는 바람에 폭스는 결국, 마라톤을 중단하게 되고 9개월 후에 세상을 떠납니다.

이러한 그의 정신을 기리기 위해

매년 60여 개 국가에서 개최되는 '테리 폭스 달리기(Terry Fox Run)' 행사에 수만 명이 참석하고 있다고 합니다.

그의 불굴의 의지와 진정한 용기에 다시 한 번 박수를 보내며, 여러분에게도 띄워 보냅니다
